It is possible, just create a page under the "other" category as opposed to the "local business or place" category.
There are many advantages to using the local business or place category as Google Local has some awesome benefits including GPS directions via smartphones for guest arrivals and much more.
I personally agree with sasmo:
Beth, I wouldn't worry too much about the security issue. Every other kind of business publishes their address.
Also, if I was a burgler, a VR is the last place I would want to rob. Other than a flat screen TV or two, not much else there compared to a real house that could have plenty of valuables. Also, there are cleaners coming and going at odd times, just too risky for the reward. Plus lot's of owners have secturity cameras too.
The benefits of listing your address and getting on the Google map far outweigh any risk, at least in my opinoin
but also understand that some owners don't want to give out their exact location, so just create a page for your rental under the "other" category.
